PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

It’s been a busy week of GDC festivities, and the media’s take on our announcements this week can be found in the many links below.

Now that the conference is over, I’m happy to actually have a chance to play some games (Killzone 3, PixelJunk Shooter 2, and Dead Space 2 specifically). However, the respite is all too brief, as we’re out to both Austin and Boston for SXSW and PAX East, respectively. (There’s a Road Trip joke in there somewhere)

Look for news on a Texas-sized meetup soon!

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

We really want to meet you.

How badly? Over the next 2 weeks, we’ll be fanning out across 3 of this great nation’s 4 major time zones (sorry Hawaii), equipped with not-yet-released titles for your gaming pleasure. We’ll talk more about our PAX East and SXSW plans shortly, for now we are focused on GDC, where we hope to see you TOMORROW. Click here for details. Then RSVP.

Oh, and we had a great time at Friday night’s engadget reader meetup. We gave out a PS3. We’ll do more such things in our upcoming events.

SF. Tomorrow.

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

Fellow Americans, I hope you’re enjoying your long President’s Day weekend. I ran into a Canadian colleague earlier this week at our Motorstorm Apocalypse event (video upcoming), and while she was unable to explain “Family Day” to me, I’m glad you’ll likely have time off as well.

Tuesday’s a holiday in its own right around the PlayStation offices: Killzone 3 launch day. I’m currently playing through the campaign utilizing the PlayStation Move. As a longtime console shooting fan, I was a bit hesitant to try out the new controls, but they’re accurate enough to earn me the “Eagle Eye – Every Sniper Rifle bullet is a kill” Trophy the very first time I picked up a sniper rifle. And I do enjoy stabbing the Move controller forward to engage a brutal melee.

I expect a lively debate about what settings are the best with Move controls post release. If you want my suggestion, I go with a max vertical dead zone, and zero horizontal, turning the sensitivity all the way down, and the rotation speed at about 40%. Been working well for me so far!

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

A Sunday with no football. So… what are you playing this weekend? I’m trying to beat Mass Effect 2 – 30 hours in at this point.
Got any good links we missed? Send ‘em over.

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

So, um… Green Bay or Pittsburgh?

The Packers bookended my Eagles season by beating Philly in Week 1 and in the playoffs (costing me an embarrassing wager with Torgo from PSNation), so I guess I’ll pull for them. Also, I just couldn’t ever bring myself to root for Ben Roethlisberger.

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

I’ve been out of the office all week at some announcement event, and so haven’t had a ton of time to catch up on what everybody’s writing (hence the short reading list this week). Did I miss anything big?

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

Now that I’ve finally had a couple of days in between business trips to relax, I’m starting to appreciate how good this January’s games are. I’ve poured several hours into Mass Effect 2 for PS3 this weekend (pushing me to Trophy Level 14, I might add ^_^), and I’ve gotta say that it’s worth the hype. Also: it’s nice playing it with a fully functioning d-pad :D

Dead Space 2 (and Extraction) are out on Tuesday – and IGN’s Greg Miller likes it better than the first one. And the 50-hour LittleBigPlanet 2 record-setting marathon (that I co-emceed with Veronica Belmont) has only made me want to play the game even more. Of course, I’m back on a plane tomorrow.

There’s always February!

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

2011 International CES wraps up today, and while it’s not the hugest show for gaming (we’ll have to content ourselves with GDC, PAX East, E3, Comic-Con, Gamescom, PAX Prime, and Tokyo Game Show ^_^), there’s still a metric ton of cool stuff to see. Our colleagues over at Sony Electronics put together a slickly-produced new video series called SGNL, and they’ve got many product videos and interviews from the show floor, which you can find by clicking here.

For the busier readers out there (hey, I’ve got football to watch, too), they also did a quick runthrough of the Sony booth’s highlights, including a segment with some dude from PlayStation. I’ve embedded that below.

More from CES coming up tomorrow.

PlayStation Around the Web: What We Read

If this week’s reading list looks a bit longer than usual, it is – this overstuffed edition contains links from the long Thanksgiving weekend.

As we’ve brought up earlier this week, the Video Game Awards are coming up pretty soon, and with PlayStation nominees and cool reveals in store, we’re once again going to hold an LA viewing party near the live broadcast of the show. Look for more details this week, but Californians: mark your calendars for next Saturday!
