If you are interested in submitting your mod, kart or track to be a future “creation” of the week be sure to visit up on the official ModNation Community site and who knows? You might see your handy work on the PlayStation.Blog.
Mod of the Week
Mod Name: Badimo
Creator: Stitchless
If there is life on other planets and they are cage fighters, this guy is one of them. The lifeless black eyes and spiraling of razor wire make it pretty clear that he’s not to be messed with. If you download him, I suggest that you don’t lose. I don’t think he’ll like it….
Kart of the Week
Kart Name: Meltdown
Creator: Icandy55
Apparently demons can be gangsta rappers. One look at this Kart, and you’ll understand why. From the anguished airbrushed face on the hood front to the beating heart engine in the back, this ride is all freaky. Throw in that wood grain finish for a touch of class, and you’ve got a whip that’s fit for even the most discerning demonic taste.
Track of the Week
If you have a video(s) of your track submit them to MNR’s YouTube channel by emailing ModNation@Playstation.Sony.com and we will include them in the blog if your track is showcased.
Track Name: Alphorma
Created by: Adie23
Adie23 says “This once peaceful coastal city is now home to jumps, traps, tight turns and barrels of doom”
This track isn’t hyper-populated with props all over the place and it isn’t super long, and I think those are the reasons it shines. There are turns that have to be carefully negotiated, there are boost pads that may or may not be worth going for (Adie23 was sneaky about that in a couple of spots), and there’s enough air, drift opportunities, and pods to keep you boosting and competitive in some quick and dirty races.
Hot Lap Roster for this week

ModNation Monday: Family Guy Drives ModNation!
Posted by Ramone Russell in modnation racers, PlayStation Games, PS3, united front games on October 11th, 2010
Greetings and happy ModNation Monday everyone. Ramone Russell here with another ModNation Monday update!
Family Guy Drives ModNation!
As we announced last week, today we are honored to have some of the great talent behind the hit show Family Guy on the Artist Spotlight! Director Dominic Polcino, Assistant Director Joe Vaux, and Storyboard Artist Raul Guerra make sure we are all rolling in our seats with every new episode — not a bad gig at all, right? Each of these guys are artists within their own right as well, and they have a lot to say not just about the amazing show they work on, but on their own work and “making it” in their industry. It was an honor to see what they could do once they had a chance to play ModNation Racers, and have them on the PlayStation.Blog today to answer your questions!
Check out the video below to see how much fun they had, then read on below to learn their personal stories.
Dominic Polcino
Has been one of the directorial hands behind such hits as The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and Family Guy – including the Star Wars spoofs “Blue Harvest” and “Something Something Something Dark Side.” “Lovesick Fool” is his first foray into doing animation his way. This time it’s personal. Lovesick Fool is a short animated film following the ongoing frustrations and disappointments of its creator in the area of love. At times funny, poetic, profound. Or just sad? You be the judge. The genesis of the idea was a series of personal underground comic books which Dominic wrote and drew. Those are available at his website and in most comic book stores in LA, and a few in New York. Polcino studied animation at the UCLA Animation Workshop. See a sample on www.funnyordie.com.
Joe Vaux
I’ve been working on Family Guy since it’s rebirth in 2004. I’ve worked my way up through the ranks from being a Storyboard revisionist to one of the assistant directors. My director, Dominic Bianchi, and I were responsible for “Brian and Stewie,” “The Big Man on Hippocampus,” and “The Man with Two Brians” to name a few.
Outside of the office, my creative juices get sprayed all over paintings. I’ve shown my crazy work in several galleries across the country and even a few around the world. You can see my work here.
Raul Guerra
After graduating in 2002, I’ve been working steadily in animation and illustration. It was in 2006 that I joined the Family Guy team, working as a storyboard revisionist and storyboarder. Here I get to work with some of the most creative and wacky people ever, which serves as fuel and inspiration for my own stuff when I get home. I enjoy painting, sculpting and screen printing. Oh, and dinosaurs!!! Check out my site here.
More Goodies On The Way
As we mentioned last week, there are lots more good things coming to ModNation. Tomorrow, we’ll have everyone’s favorite insurance Mod, Flo, joining us from the ModNation Progressive office. On October 26th, we’re going to be giving you the first taste of some track-enhancing goodness with a FREE parts pack for a week! I’ll fill you in with more details next week, but needless to say, you will be pleased. Also, since the MNR community is so great, we think it’s about time for another Double XP week. It’s also going to start on October 26th, so get your Karts tuned and ready.
Also, since Halloween is coming and you’re all going to be dressing up as your favorite Mods (right?), it seems like the perfect time to have a ModNation Halloween contest.
ModNation Halloween creations contest
Submit your original Halloween-themed Karts, Mods, and Tracks here for a chance to win a free Mod and Kart. The winner’s creations will be showcased in November’s first ModNation Monday blog.
Clearly, it’s going to be a killer October in ModNation, and it just keeps getting better. Now let’s jump into the cool stuff you’ve all been creating:
ModNation Creations of the Week
Amazing creations in ModNation get shared every day and we are playing a ton of them. If you are interested in submitting your Mod, Kart or Track to be a future “creation” of the week be sure to visit up on the official ModNation Community site and who knows? You might see your handiwork on the PlayStation.Blog.
MOD OF THE WEEK
Mod Name: Yin
Creator: Stitchless
This guy makes me want to beat down the pack in a race, and then have him jump out of the Kart and directly into a martial arts competition. Cool from head to toe, and his abs are almost as ripped as mine….
KART OF THE WEEK
Kart Name: Bug-A-Boo
Creator: Icandy55
As cool as this Kart is, it’s weird to have that bug face looking back at me while I race. Very creative…..but a little creepy.
TRACKS OF THE WEEK
If you have a video(s) of your track submit them to MNR’s YouTube channel and email ModNation@Playstation.Sony.com and we will include them in the blog if your track is showcased.
Track Name: Peruvian Shakedown
Created by: Corliss
Peruvian Shakedown says: “Here we have a hand-built Mayan temple with surrounding villages. Maxed out props, lots of detail in this map. Light dirt at the sides of the track will lead to alternative routes, and there are several.”
This track has one of the most evil uses of the rotating platform that I’ve seen. To succeed on this track, you pretty much have to remember this one mantra: “No Mistakes.” This is a wicked-looking track and technically exciting too. A true test of skill here, and the jumps to the pyramid from the shortcuts are amazing.
Track Name: Wild Wild West
Created by: CIV_BOSS
CIV_BOSS says: “Race past the old church and cemetery, through a couple farms towards the outskirts of town where the animals are grazing. You will notice the awesome layout of this track makes for a very fun and exciting race: the more racers there are, the more fun it is. Oh and watch out for them barrels partner!”
Learn the blind corners as quickly as you can with this one if you want to have any hope at all. Also be sure you take advantage of the opportunities to get some extra air by hopping off the jumps because a lot of the Item Pods are up pretty high. This track is intense, and it makes me dream of the day when sheep will be invisible.
Track Name: Graveyard
Created by: Stitchless
Stitchless says: “This track is the first part of a series I will be releasing, The Pits of Darkness. The course features a vast cemetery… Those dreading the graves can choose to take the waterway, but be forewarned the current is strong. Maybe you’ll find your preferred pace along the inner walls, where you’ll boost all the way around.
You can get some serious air on this track, but that depends on which route you take. One of the two main paths has some wicked jump and spin opportunities, and the other has one of the best back-to-back-to-back drift opportunities I’ve seen. With Halloween right around the corner, this track is perfect for adding a little spookiness to your racing.
HOT LAP ROSTER FOR THE WEEK

ModNation Monday: Free Mod, “Family Guy” Spotlight Next Week!
Posted by Jason Coker in modnation racers, PlayStation Games, PS3, united front games on October 4th, 2010
Hello everybody. Jason Coker here, proud citizen of ModNation. There’s a lot going on at the moment, so let’s get right to it:
Guess Who’s Coming to the Nation…
We’ve got a special guest coming to ModNation Racers next Tuesday courtesy of the good folks at Progressive Insurance. Every Racer in ModNation has at least a couple of Karts that they’ve grown to know and love, and who better to watch your back than Progressive Insurance’s lovely spokesMod, Flo?
In addition to handling all your Kart insurance needs, the Flo Mod comes with:
- Flo’s Blouse
- Flo’s Hair with Headband
- Flo’s Apron
- Flo’s Button and Nametag
Absolutely for free!
Oh, and that’s not all that Progressive Insurance has in store for ModNation — stay tuned for more goodies to come.
Next Week: Family Guy meets ModNation!
Giggity giggity goo! If Kazunori wasn’t enough for you, we got a special treat next week. The next MNR Artist Spotlight takes us behind the scenes of one of the funniest shows on television today, Family Guy!
We meet some of the creative minds that bring Family Guy to your sets including Joe Vaux (Assistant Director), Raul Guerra (Storyboard Artist), and Dominic Polcino (Director) and see how they get their Mod on.
Best of all, these guys will be online to answer any fan questions on how the show is made and how they got their sweet gigs.
Tune in next week for an EPIC ModNation Monday!
ModNation Creations of the Week
Please keep your creation submissions coming, folks. You can submit your Mods, Karts, and Tracks on the official ModNation community website and your work may be highlighted as one of our weekly picks. Let’s take a look at this week’s selections.
MOD OF THE WEEK
Creator : nofriendo1
Mod: “Baboon”
I apologize now for the terrible pun, but this Mod is bananas. It’s truly a special feeling to blast somebody in front of you with a straight shot and then breeze by them with a trash talking ape. Imagine how much better driving would be in the real world if you could have a baboon in your car… Well, this is probably about as close as you’re ever going to get, so enjoy!
KART OF THE WEEK
Creator: Icandy55
Kart: “Pink Frost”
OK, I admit it – I like bling. You can’t hate on the attention to detail here. This may not be everyone’s favorite color, but the airbrushed look and the shine can’t be ignored. This is impressive work.
TRACKS OF THE WEEK
Track Name: “Central Park Drive-Thru”
PSN ID: atheistsw
Yes, yes, YES!!! Giant track in a park that’s surrnounded by a city? Check! Ridiculous amount of forks, shortcuts, and even a hidden route? Check! A freaking HEDGE MAZE? Check! This track has all the elements of great design. It’s perfect for Action racing, Pure racing….whatever. This is extremely well done.
Track Name: “Biffonium Empire”
PSN ID: pikminenco
I hate the fact that I love this track so much. There are tons of ways to excel on this track, and there are tons of ways to screw up royally as well. It’s got that great mix of skill and luck factors that make it hard to perfect. Several races in, I still don’t have it down, and that’s what makes it so awesome.
Name of the Track: Jungle Survivor
PSN ID: NyghtHawk
No doubt, this is the hotness. And I mean that literally. Placing Flame Vents just before Boost Pads really makes me think more about strategy on this track. Depending on where I am in the pack, I may have to consider the trade off between shielding my way through them or taking a little more time and weaving through. There are also some killer drift opportunities in this one, and a word of warning – some Item Pods just are NOT worth getting! Love it!
Hot Lap Roster for this week
As many of you probably know, there were some issues in getting the Hot Lap Tracks updated early last week, so we’re bringing back the ones that didn’t get put up on time. For you speed demons, here’s a look at this week’s killer tracks:
Monday: BOSS Gardens, by CIV_BOSS
Tuesday: The Megaplex, by OakBiscuits
Wednesday: da ghetto masta (v4), by daaa57150
Thursday: Central Park Drive-Thru, by athiestsw
Friday: Biffonium Empire, by pikminenco
Saturday: Jungle Survivor, by NyghtHawk
Sunday: Alpine Sprint Series, by TBomber
Believe it or not, we’ve still got TONS of stuff coming for ModNation Racers, so keep checking in here and on modnation.com/ for the latest info on the best race, create, share experience in the (Mod) Nation!

ModNation Monday: Gran Turismo Creator Takes a Test Drive!
Posted by Chuck Lacson in modnation racers, PlayStation Games, PS3, united front games on September 27th, 2010
Big week for ModNation! It’s not everyday that the creator of the biggest racing franchise EVER takes another racing game for a spin … and has a good time doing it! On top of that Air Raid is available to all tomorrow on the PSN!
Be on a look out for more great MNR news tomorrow right here on the PS.Blog!
Artist Spotlight: Kazunori Yamauchi, Creator/Producer of Gran Turismo
Kazunori Yamauchi, the legend behind the Gran Turismo franchise, has a passion for racing, a passion that has led to over 56 Million copies of Gran Turismo shipped to date. As he prepares to launch his greatest creation yet (Gran Turismo 5 hits shelves November 2nd!) he took a moment to tell us what drives him and his team, shares memories of creating his first game, and what he thinks about racing … ModNation style!
Take Flight with Air Raid this week!
Whether he’s soaring through the skies off jumps or shooting Hydra missiles at his latest opponent, Air Raid will not stop at nothing to win the race. Once in the crosshairs of his one-of-a-kind Fighter Plane Kart, you better say your prayers! Available as a separate Mod ($.99), Kart ($.99), or as a bundle ($1.75). Get several parts and accessories for you to create with in the Mod and Kart Studios.
Mod of the Week
Mod Name: Geisha Kokeshi Autumn
Creator: cherryrae
I’ve been to Japan and I own a few kokeshi dolls. This Mod definitely captures that spirit, and the Autumn colors are gorgeous. Nicely done!
Kart of the Week
Kart Name: True Lowrider
Creator: Joker_Six_T_Nine
This truck is pimp-a-licious. Old school flavor with excellent attention to detail on the paint job. All win.
Tracks of the Week
Track Name: BOSS Gardens
Created by: CIV_BOSS
I liked this track after just looking at a few of the screen shots. Once I downloaded and raced it, I fell in love. It’s lush and green, and it’s designed really well. CIV_BOSS used narrow segments of track very well, and the item pod placement is really clever. A few laps in, I learned how a few key drifting lines, and it was all good after that. Good work, BOSS.
Track Name: The Megaplex
Created by: OakBiscuits
OakBiscuits says that this track was a go at an indoor warehouse racetrack, and this track absolutely hit the mark. It REALLY feels like an indoor Karting track. Well, it’s quite a bit more exciting than any indoor Karting track I’ve ever seen, but you get the idea, right? I give this track a two word review: Awe. Some.
Hot Lap Roster For This Week
We keep it coming with some nice Community tracks for Hot Lap this week:

Track Name: Alien All Star (v2)
Created by: daaa57150
daaa57150 says “In an alternate future, humans started colonizing other planets and built a space base. Hearing about this, the ModNation officials decided to organize a championship. The track is relatively easy to comprehend, being of medium-long size. It took me 52s for a lap in a time trial race.”
Track Name: University Challenge
Created by: atheistsw
atheistsw says “The ModNation comes to the picturesque European town of Zetterberg, home of one of the region’s leading universities. The university, to celebrate its 250th anniversary, graciously allowed a race through the grounds of the historic site. The race organizers extended the route along the lakeside and through the neighboring village. Just for kicks, they opted to race along the old rooftops as well!”

You can enter the jungle part of the track by tacking the hyper jump to the right or you can continue your road thought the city by tacking the hyper jump to the left. I’ve got great feedback from other players about this track.

Track Name: ”Forgotten Ruins Mountain”
Created by: Blind-Rush
Blind-Rush says: “Forgotten Ruins Mountain is a former battle zone of a war held by three civilizations; desert, jungle and alpine civilizations. After the war, all was left in ruins making one of the best tracks in the ModNation world. To make this track, I used props from three themes, the ones mentioned earlier. I took advantage of this feature to make various passages, each one with a different theme.”
Track Name: ”Switchbacks and Stairs”
Created by: Harbringer
Harbringer says: “A simple, yet not so simple track that takes you up a mountain through a series of switchbacks then flying back down a crate staircase. This is a unique track you don’t want to miss!”)
Track Name: ”Evolution City”
Created by: Stitchless
Stitchless says: “This is Evolution City. After several people began gaining powers, the city was given to this population so they would have a place to call home. Heroes and villains roam these streets, and some even the sky. Even after the recent attack by Toxic, the city sprang back quickly. Be forewarned: there are many paths to chose from. Will you follow the sewer line like the crazed cyborg? Will you take a detour through town? Or do your powers take you to the top, soaring above all?”

Tracks of the Week
If you have a video(s) of your track, submit them to MNR’s YouTube channel ModNation@PlayStation.Sony.com and we will include them in the blog if your track is showcased.
Track Name: Shipwreck Cove
Created by: pikminenco
pikminenco says “a powerful hurricane “devastated” most of the ships but that doesn’t stop the MRC to make a racetrack of it. There are 3 ways to cross the lake, through the shipwrecks, through the shallow water and a hidden route that you will have to find yourself.”
Track Name: Desert Island Dash
Created by: atheistsw
atheistsw says “This is a pretty challenging course, but also very rewarding. There are multiple routes to take which offer up their own pros and cons and should make for varied, thoughtful racing strategies. I do believe this is my most fun and most balanced track to date featuring a bit of everything. Fast straights, drifty hairpins, big air jumps, devastating devastators, some roly poly barrels and a few nifty shortcuts for good measure, this event has it all and a bit more thrown in at that.”
Track Name: Shortcut City
Created by: Flamestalker-NL
Flamestalker-NL says “Go between those trucks, check that alleyway and what’s behind the market stalls? As the name implies this track is littered with shortcuts. There are more then 15 shortcuts to find, some even combine or split up. The combinations you can make are almost endless.”

ModNation Monday: Community Artist Spotlight, Secrets of a “Super Creator”
Posted by Ramone Russell in modnation racers, PlayStation Games, PS3, united front games on August 23rd, 2010
Today’s post is our first Community Artist Spotlight. Every other week or so, ModNation Monday will spotlight a community creator who is producing outstanding original content. We’re happy to introduce Myles Gordon our first ModNation “Super Creator!” Myles specializes in making unique-looking and technically sound tracks. Game Informer’s August issue features a piece on Mr. Gordon and the amazing tracks he’s created. Our focus on Myles starts with some of his tracks and a short Q&A.
MylesG Tracks
Here is an overview of some of the highlight tracks among the Tours. There are eight Tours total with four tracks each. To find them just do a text search under tracks for “P Tour”, “M Tour”, “G Tour”, “O Tour”, “N Tour”, “R Tour”, “Q Tour” or “W Tour.”
Track Name: M Tour 3: Aquatica
MylesG says: “Water and fire mix in this ocean-based Stunt Park. Aquatica is all about big air, big stunts and big speed. Skilled racers will be able to maintain max boost throughout most of this course due to long drifts and huge air time.”
Track Name: O Tour 4: Sky Fleet
MylesG says: “Take to the skies above Tek City and join the battle that rages above. Help the city’s defense airships take down the Overlord’s Dreadnought and declare yourself the Omega Champion.”
Track Name: O Tour 2: Armagna’s Forest
MylesG says: “The picturesque race through Armagna’s Forest begins with a tour of the forest floor; drifting fans are sure to be at home here. Should you not get lost once heck of a roller coaster ride through the treetops awaits you on the way to the finish.”
Track Name: G Tour 4: Tek Cityscape
Q&A with “Super Creator” Myles Gordon
How do you like creating with ModNation?
“It’s great! The tools are fun and easy to use, and you’re really given a lot of freedom with what you can make. One thing that really surprised me with the track editor is how much variety people have been able to do with only four themes.”
What do you enjoy the most about the game?
“The Track Editor is my favorite part, but gameplay wise, I love the addition of the shield — it really gets rid of the random frustration of being slammed by items that you see in other kart racers. It makes the game more skill based where you aren’t punished for being in first place.”
What would you like to see in DLC or for a possible sequel?
“Some new themes would be great (Snow, Futuristic, or Lava) as well as more props to work with, such as waterfalls, more building blocks, and a thin object with a large surface area to be used as a roof with the building blocks)”
What inspires you?
“Well I was a big fan of Mario Kart, Wipeout and F-Zero so there are probably some influences there in some of my tracks. However, when I’m planning my tracks out, I usually just sit down in front of a white board and write down any ideas that come to mind. Really all I try and do is build something fun that plays well, feels unique and looks cool.”
Who are your favorite creators and creations?
“My favorite track creators are: ArgorokX, WilsonPhillips-X and VintageOctopus. All of their tracks are unique and fun to race on.”
What advice would you give to other ModNation creators?
“1. Plan it out beforehand. Just hopping into the editor without a solid plan will probably result in something that feels generic. I usually start by writing down some ideas with the goal being to have a least 3 unique moments on the course that make it stand out. I’ll then draw out a rough plan on paper and then go into the editor and try and build it.
2. Build the track first and decorate second. Get a your layout as final as possible before starting to decorate your course with props. Its much more difficult to change the course layout after you’ve filled it with props. Also ensure your layout is fun to race on and not frustrating – keep in mind it will only get more difficult as you add in the props.
3. Test before publishing. One of the best ways to do this is to have some people that have never played your track give it a try in front of you. Watch them play and get their feedback and you’ll be able to see parts that are confusing or frustrating. Also be sure to try resetting yourself (with select) during some of the more complicated sections of your course (especially jumps) to make sure you don’t reset in weird places or get stuck.”
