Coming to PlayStation Plus: Our Biggest Publish Yet!
Posted by Grace Chen in PlayStation Network, playstation plus, PSN, sackboy prehistoric moves, sam & max: the devil’s playhouse on December 1st, 2010
Hi everyone,
I’m happy to let you know that we’ll offer our biggest PlayStation Plus publish to date coming up in December just in time for the Holidays! We will be giving more than $50 of content over the next two weeks, essentially paying for a full year’s subscription to PlayStation Plus, making December a great month to sign up.
Kicking things off on December 7 is the LittleBigPlanet spin-off PSN title, Sackboy Prehistoric Moves. Enjoy 10 unique Move-enabled levels on a multiplayer adventure filled romp through the land of dinosaurs. Best of all, PlayStation Plus subscribers get Sackboy Prehistoric Moves free AND a week before everyone else.
Earlier this year, European PlayStation Plus subscribers were given a full season download of Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse, regularly priced at $34.99. We heard the feedback that US subscribers would like the same content and are happy to report that all five episodes will be available to US PlayStation Plus subscribers on December 14 as well.
Along with Sam & Max, we are discounting Marvel Super Hero Squad PSP for those PlayStation Plus subcribers that have a PSP. Gamers can take Blue Tongue’s humorous outlook on the Marvel universe for a spin. Marvel Super Hero Squad PSP will be available for 50% off starting December 14. These three games barely scratch the surface of the upcoming PlayStation Plus content publish, so be sure to check the full release list down below.
As always, here’s a friendly reminder to pick up the content that will be removed from PlayStation Plus, including free downloads of Shatter, DYNOGEMS, Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, and a discount on Landit Bandit, Hustle Kings, Crash Bandicoot 2, and MAG DLC.
Finally, if you haven’t signed up yet, check out our offer giving new subscribers of a full year of PlayStation Plus an additional three months for free.

Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Episode 2 Graces PSN today
Posted by Andy Hartzell in PlayStation Games, PSN, sam & max: the devil’s playhouse, telltale games on May 18th, 2010
Gaming enthusiasts around the world are excited about Tuesday the 18th, the day when the second episode of Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse series – called the “The Tomb of Sammun-Mak” – will release. As writer and lead designer for this episode, I’m…well, I was about to say I was the most excited of all, but judging from some of the postings around the web, I’m not even in the top ten percent. Sam & Max have some pretty excitable fans. But I’m right up there.
For those new to the series, Sam & Max are the Freelance Police, a team that is to crime what BP is to the Gulf of Mexico. The Devil’s Playhouse, architected by Chuck Jordan, based on the characters created by Steve Purcell, is a mind-bending mélange of sci-fi, horror and really demented comedy all centering around a mysterious box containing Toys of Power.
Like an HBO series, The Devil’s Playhouse has a continuing storyline delivered in regular installments, one that builds to a shattering climax. Each episode within the continuum has its own story arc, yet it must build on the ones that came before and set up the ones that come after…no small challenge for the designer.
Episode 2 is essentially the “back story”. While “The Penal Zone” premiere episode plunged the player directly into the action without a lot of explanation, “The Tomb of Sammun-Mak” takes a step back to clue the player in on just what the hell is going on. In fact, we’ll literally be stepping back—109 years, to the time of our protagonists’ great grandparents Sameth and Maximus. It was a lot of fun to give America’s best-loved dog-and-lagomorph team a steam-age makeover. We answer a few questions raised in episode 1: just how did an interdimensional toybox wind up underneath our heroes’ office building? And while we’re at it, we sketch out some origin stories for several of the other denizens of Sam & Max’s off-kilter world. A monthly episodic gaming series is brand new to PlayStation Network, and we hope you’ll take a look. If you’re keen to sample before buying, check out the trial download, also available on PSN.
Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Q&A with Telltale Games
Posted by Chris Morell in PlayStation Games, PS3, PSN, sam & max: the devil’s playhouse, telltale games on April 8th, 2010
The Sam & Max franchise is making its first foray onto PS3 next Thursday, April 15. I think I speak for us all when I say, “It’s about dang time!”
The third season of Sam & Max – The Devil’s Playhouse – hits PSN next week with Episode 1: The Penal Zone. If you’re not familiar with the Telltale Games style of play, it’s all based on an episodic adventure game structure where story drives the gameplay. To break down the fine details, listen to what director and writer Chuck Jordan has to say about the premiere on PS3 in the video below.
You can pre-order the entire five-episode series now for $29.99, which secures all five installments for a $5 discount.
Visually speaking, I think we’re in line for the best version of Sam & Max yet. But hey, I’m biased. Now go tell Telltale we want Strong Bad and Wallace & Gromit!
Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse Coming to PSN
Posted by Chris Schmidt in PlayStation Games, PSN, sam & max: the devil’s playhouse, telltale games, Trailers on March 11th, 2010
Hello PlayStation friends! We’re Telltale, and we make awesome episodic adventure games! You may know of our work – Tales of Monkey Island, Strong Bad, and Wallace & Gromit are a few of our recent titles – but we’ve never launched a game on the illustrious PlayStation 3. Until now, that is! Coming in April, Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse hits the PlayStation Store, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring the third season of our landmark episodic series to you, the PlayStation Nation!
If you’re not familiar with the rabbit/dog detective duo, the following description ripped unceremoniously from the press release explains our heroes’ new unhinged adventure:
In Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse, Max has been bestowed with a set of powerful psychic abilities from an unusual ancient source that he’ll wield against the strongest and strangest foes the Freelance Police have ever faced. Join gaming’s greatest dog and rabbit sleuths as they investigate the source of these powers, with manic Max exercising new and amazing abilities with each episode. Max’s shape shifting, teleportation, mind reading and future sight abilities prove particularly useful as intergalactic simians, eldritch gods, under-dwellers and an arcane scholar ruthlessly hunt down those powers for their own evil ends.
For the first time on the PlayStation Store, we’re teaming up with the fine folks at SCEA to offer Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse for pre-order beginning March 18. Customers who pre-purchase the five-episode comedy saga will pay $29.99 (discounted from $34.99) until the game launches on PSN. Not too bad!
We can’t wait for you to experience the first episode, The Penal Zone, next month! In the meantime, go ahead and take a peek inside the Devil’s Playhouse with the trailer below!
