Who is the Biggest Fat Princess Fan?
Posted by Deborah Mars in atomic operations, fat princess, PlayStation Games, PSN on April 16th, 2010
We’ve always been BIG fans of our fans.
We’ve seen pictures of people shoving cake in their mouths to win a code to be included in our initial online beta back in 2009. We’ve gasped in amazement at some truly epic battles captured from gameplay and posted on YouTube. And we’ve been graced with the beauty of fans donned in stunning Fat Princess cosplay.
So it got us thinking…who really is the biggest Fat Princess fan?
Our good friends over at Atomic Operations decided to pose that question at large, and are holding a contest starting today, Friday April 16, 2010. Show that YOU are the Biggest Fan of Fat Princess, and an AI character will be named after you in the next FP Patch Release.
There isn’t much time, so go to the Atomic Operations website NOW for all the details on how to enter and win.
Stay tuned, see you all on the battlefield, and as always…
Cake for everyone,
The Fat Princess Team
P.S. Don’t forget about next week’s San Francisco Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake (PSP) tournament!

Who are the better players, the gaming media or the gamers who read them? Next week in San Francisco, we’ll settle this age-old question once and for all!*
The battlefield is Orson SF, and the challenge will be held on the soon-to-be-released Fat Princess: A Fistful of Cake for PSP and PSPgo.
We’ve already got the media combatants lined up. What about the gamers who’ll face them? Well we’re hoping that you’re reading this post! If you’re going to be in the San Francisco area next Wednesday, April 21st, we cordially invite you to our Fat Princess: Tournament of Cake.
Community members will be going head-to-head against members of the media for the bragging rights and fun prizes! Teams will consist of four members on each team, and losers will get eliminated down until the ultimate community and media teams are left standing – they’ll then battle it out for the grand prize the coveted title of Cake Boss (ok, never mind, that’s Buddy Valastro). At the end of the night, all community members who participate will walk away with a free downloadable voucher code for Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake!
Additionally, attendees will be able to get their hands on upcoming PSP titles ModNation Racers, Invizimals and Hot Shots Tennis PSP (working title), as well as re-visit recently released PSP titles echoshift, Patchwork Heroes, Eye of Judgment Legends, MLB 10 The Show and SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3.
Here’s what you need to know:

Fat Princess PS3: Fat Fan Fare with Patch 1.05
Posted by Deborah Mars in atomic operations, dlc, fat princess, PlayStation Games, PS3, PSN on March 25th, 2010
OK, we know it’s officially Spring in most of the world, but we really just couldn’t resist bringing a winter wonderland to Fat Princess PS3.
Today, March 25, we’ll be releasing Patch 1.05 which now includes *two* new FREE snow-themed maps called Frost Bite and Candy Mountain.
We know many people have wanted new maps, and we’re diligently trying to keep the community alive and together with these free maps. And for those of you who have heard about Fat Princess and – gasp! – have not yet played it, now is your chance to grab the game and you’ll get all of the original maps plus four additional maps for free!
We’ve also fixed a few issues recently brought to our attention:
- Warrior: Fixed to disallow shield activation when carrying objects, as well as attenuating damage against lava and drowning.
- Ice Mage: Changed level 1 area attack to slow enemies, not freeze them.
- Soccer map: Disabled online score saving for this level (sorry, all, but it was too easy to gain rank).
Last but certainly not least, we’re happy to announce that our beloved princess has a hot new suitor: Atomic Operations, a new developer based in Seattle, Washington. We have lots of exciting things underway, and all I can really say is “Yo ho ho and a slice of cake!” (nudge nudge wink wink) ;-)
Stay tuned, see you all on the battlefield, and as always…
Cake for everyone,
The Fat Princess Team
Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake Trailer and Interview
Posted by Matt Morton in Developer Corner, fat princess, PlayStation Games, psp, supervillian studios, Trailers on March 19th, 2010
Hello everyone! I’m Matt Morton, a Producer here at Santa Monica Studio. I’m VERY excited to be talking today about Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake, and to let everyone know that you will be able to have your very own copy beginning Tuesday, April 27 via the PlayStation Store or UMD at participating retail outlets! Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake is everything you love about Fat Princess on the PS3, and it fits right in the palm of your hand. Plus, there are even more slices of cakey goodness in the PSP version, as we’ve added additional content to this wonderful game. We’ve got new game modes, new maps, a new extended storyline for single player…. heck, there is just a LOT of fun to be had with Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake!
Check out the trailer!
I wouldn’t be able to talk about this great game without mentioning SuperVillain Studios (SVS). They are the developers that met the challenge of bringing Fat Princess to the PSP, making it a faithful game that stands on its own, and adds so much more than the original did. I would like to introduce you to Todd Morgan, the Senior Producer from SuperVillain Studios that helped bring Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake to life.
Todd, let’s talk about what SVS has brought to FP: FoC. What new and exciting things will we see in this new title?
Hi Matt! First of all, thank you for providing me the opportunity to speak about the game. We are very excited about game, and think that everyone else will be too! First off, we have added six new maps to the game. Five of these news maps will be showcased through the newly expanded single player mode called Legend of the Fat Princess. The sixth map was created specifically for one of our new play modes that we have created for our version of the game. In total we have added 4 NEW play modes to the game. These new play modes are integrated into the single player story mode, but can also be played as stand alone play types from the main menu. We added six new music tracks created specifically for each map, in order to stay true to how the PS3 version was made. Lastly, since this game is so multiplayer friendly, we made sure to make this game support both Adhoc play and Infrastructure play.
How did you get all of this extra-good cakey-ness onto the PSP?
Lots of hard work! I’m kidding, good question. For the most part we took what was already there with the PS3 version of the game, and then by hand remodeled and resized all of the existing maps and characters in the game so that they would fit onto the PSP. All the while making sure that the game still looks as close to the PS3 version as possible. We also had to make tweaks to the in-game UI and FX’s to again fit with in the PSP hardware. The additional game modes took a bit of work, but were a lot of fun to add to the game. We had to re-sample the audio, but again this was just necessary in order to fit onto the PSP and to sound as best as possible.
Fat Princess is a great online experience. What is the number of players we can battle, and in what modes: Ad Hoc, Infrastructure?
Adhoc will support up to 8 unique users to be able to connect and play together without having to be signed into a PSN account. Infrastructure will support up to 8 unique users logged into PSN. Both play types will have the ability to have up to 24 characters onscreen during gameplay. We’re very excited about this. We worked really hard to make this happen for the integrity of the game.
I can’t wait until everyone gets their hands on Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake! It’s been a pleasure getting to work on this with you guys. Anything else to add before we sign off?
Working on Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake was a lot fun for us here at SuperVillain. We really enjoyed working on the game, and would definitely like to give credit to Titan Studios for creating such a fun game to work on. I would also like to thank you and Deb Mars, and SCEA Santa Monica Studio for giving us the opportunity to work on such a fun and creative game. We are very excited about the work we’ve done, and think that everyone else will really enjoy it as well.
Thank you, Todd!
Well everyone, there you have it! We’ve got a great game heading your way for the PSP very soon! We’ve had a blast making it, and we are very proud of how it’s all come together. I think you will be thrilled with this game, no matter if you are a fan of Fat Princess on the PS3, or even if you’ve never played Fat Princess before.
See you on the battlefield, and remember: Cake for EVERYONE!!

We’ve also fixed an issue with the online rankings, so now the All-Time and Monthly scores for Team Deathmatch and Invasion have been swapped to post correctly.
It’s all of you who keep the Fat Princess community alive and well, and it means a lot to us. We recently saw some amazing displays of fan enthusiasm and support, and wanted to share with everyone:

A special thanks to Ashe (Blue Princess) and Diana (Pink Princess) for being such hardcore fans of Fat Princess, along with Andy Lee of Asian School Boy and Jason Nishi for taking the photos.
So hey, if you’ve done something Fat Princess-inspired and want to share, let us know and we’ll be happy to feature it on the PlayStation Blog. Just post in the comments and provide us with a link.
Oh, and before we forget: Many of you have also informed us about a warrior shield bug, and just know that we’re working to fix this as quickly as possible. It will not be in this upcoming Patch 1.04, but we’re planning to get this addressed in the next patch.
